Raspberry Pi Rover

This Raspberry Pi Rover was the first-ever Raspberry Pi project I ever built!! In today's post I will dive into the whole process and experience of building this exciting project and I will go over exactly everything I did as well as everything I learned along the way!

So this first project is actually one I built quite a few years ago, but the reason I am blogging about it now is because this was really a life-changing project for me which introduced me not only to the amazing little computer which is the Raspberry Pi, but it also taught me about computer hardware and how it interacts and works with software. The main thing this project did for me, though, was light a passion for tech and computers in my heart which has stayed with me to this day and will continue to inspire and motivate me throughout my whole Coding Adventure!!

In order to create the rover, I used the "MonkMakes RasPiRobot Rover Kit" which came with all the necessary pieces and instructions to build the rover! The kit is super complete and I really recommend it if you want to build this rover yourself. I was around 10 years old when I built this rover and I did with the help of my dad and my younger brother Adrian, which made the experience of building it much more fun!!

Now without further ado, this is the Raspberry Pi Rover!!

The MonkMakes kit included everything from the chassis and the wheels to the cables and the batteries, and the instructions were super clear so this made the process of building the robot easy and enjoyable. Throughout the build, we had to assemble various parts, connect different pieces and configure SSH in order to remotely connect and control the rover from another computer! There were several parts and pieces we had to solder together so we even learnt how to do a bit of that. Even thought building the robot was fun, it wasn't always that simple and we ran into a few problems...

We wanted to connect a camera (shaped like two eyes) on top of the chassis, but we realised it was too low, so we had to innovate a small LEGO platform in order to give the camera more height! All in all, completing this project was a great way for me to learn more about computer hardware and Raspberry Pi, as well as remote connection through SSH, all while building this fun little mars-style rover which really gave me a good first impression of what technology can accomplish! This project will always have special meaning to me and I will remember it even when I move on to creating larger-scale things!!
